The Algerian love knot (Arabic: عقدة الحب الجزائرية), is a traditional Algerian pendant-shaped jewelry worn suspended from the neck by a chain. It was particularly popularized by its appearance worn by French actress Eva Green in the famous spy film Casino Royale, released in 2006.
This jewel was very well known in the 18th century among Algerian sailors, who made it using three threads or intertwined ropes that were flattened immediately after production, to offer it to their wives while sailing on the open sea for long periods of time as an eternal bond, love, affection and promise of their return. The Knot symbolizes stability and completeness
The transmission of this jewel to other continents is explained by the journey of Algerian sailors who sailed the Mediterranean Sea enabling commercial and cultural exchanges between the peoples of the region. Although the versions of the sailor were made of wire or rope, later goldsmiths began to make it with precious metals.
